To the Editor:

Lest we think that Freeport’s Dec. 17 “yes” vote to explore withdrawal from Regional School Union 5 is a mandate, please consider what the voting figures also show.

There were 1,721 votes cast, which is 21 percent of Freeport’s registered voters.

I hope when this vote comes to the people of Freeport again, it occurs on a day where there are other significant issues and perhaps candidates, to draw a more representative number of Freeport voters.
