HAMDEN, Conn. — Jordan Samuels-Thomas scored with 1:03 remaining to lift the Quinnipiac men’s hockey team to a 2-1 victory over the University of Maine on Friday night at High Point Solutions Arena.

Samuels-Thomas got his ninth of the season after gathering a deflected shot near the post and stuffing it through the pads of Maine goalie Martin Ouellette, who finished with 26 saves.

It was his second game-winning goal and and a near replica of his goal in the Bobcats’ 2-1 win over the Black Bears in last season’s opener, when he broke a 1-1 tie with 1:26 left.

Kellen Jones scored for Qunnipiac (15-3-4) just over two minutes into the second period when he put in his own rebound for his 11th goal.

Maine (10-7-2) answered near the 10-minute mark of the period on a one-timer by Shore off an assist from Connor Lean.

Maine will next play outdoors against Boston University on Jan. 11 at Fenway Park as part of the Frozen Four series.
