PARIS — Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant says he plans to run for a third four-year term.
Gallant is the only candidate so far to register with the state’s election ethics commission.
Michael Parshall, a Monmouth police officer from Upton, has announced his intention to challenge Gallant.
The 64-year-old Gallant was first elected in 2006. He tells the Sun Journal if re-elected, he hopes to continue growing the department and making it more visible in the county.
The Democrat says he has expanded patrol coverage in underserved parts of the county, secured a contract for law enforcement coverage in Bethel and bolstered the department’s criminal investigations division.
Parshall, a Republican, says he is concerned with the growth of the sheriff’s office annual budget.
The general election is in November.
