PORTLAND — A Maine State Police trooper was slightly injured Friday morning when her cruiser was struck from behind on Interstate 295 in Portland, just south of Tukey’s Bridge.

Trooper Jessica Shorey was treated at Maine Medical Center for neck and back pain and then released, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland said.

Shorey was parked in the southbound breakdown lane, where two cars had slid off the road, when her cruiser was hit by another car that lost control. The road was covered by a layer of light snow and black ice at the time.

Traffic as far as Falmouth was backed up as a result of the accident, according to McCausland.
