A candlelight vigil was held Monday night at Thornton Academy in Saco for Ashley Ouellette, a teenage murder victim whose body was discovered in the middle of Pine Point Road in Scarborough 15 years ago.
About 50 people attended the vigil.
The Scarborough Police Department’s Facebook page said that at the time of her slaying, Ouellette was a 15-year-old from Saco and a student at Thornton Academy.
Her body was found at 4 a.m. Feb. 10, 1999. Police believe she was strangled.
Scarborough police said Ouellette had been at a party the previous night and intended to spend the night in Saco at the home of two friends, Steve and Dan Sanborn. The Sanborns’ mother made up a couch for her to sleep on, which was the last time anyone saw her alive.
“Please join us today in remembering a life lost too soon. Wear purple to show your support,” a statement on the department’s Facebook page states.
Anyone with information concerning her death is urged to contact Scarborough police Detective Don Blatchford at 730-4312.
