SANFORD — Roger A. Therrien Sr., 87, of Sanford, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Pavilion in Sanford.
He was born in Sanford on March 28, 1926, a son of the late Hormidas and Alma (Theriault) Therrien.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He had formerly been employed by the Sanford Goodall Mills, Salem Suede, Allied Novelty Shoe and Waterboro Tanning.
A communicant of Holy Family parish, he also served as past grand knight of the Knights of Columbus McGinnis Council. For several years, he was also involved with the Boy Scouts, serving as assistant scout master, wolf patrol dad and explorer leader.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Frances Therrien, who passed away in 1995; and one daughter, Yvette Demko, who passed away in 2009.
He is survived by: one son, Roger A. Therrien Jr. of Londonderry, N.H.; one daughter, Helen E. Bragg of Sanford; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lea Whalen of Orange, Calif. and Rachel Pierce of Hartford, Conn.
Visiting hours for Mr. Therrien will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lafrance-Lambert & Black Funeral Home, 29 Winter St., Sanford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Holy Family Church in Sanford. Burial will be in the spring at St. Ignatius Cemetery.
