AUGUSTA — While Gov. Paul LePage and Democratic leaders continue to spar over Medicaid expansion and the state budget, the Republican governor is signing several proposals lawmakers are sending to his desk.

Among several bills LePage signed Sunday is one that bans accused domestic violence and sexual assault offenders from contacting victims between the time there’s an arrest and when bail is set.

It also ensures that law enforcement officers may share someone’s criminal history record with advocates to allow them to plan for the safety of a domestic violence or sexual assault victim.

Another bill LePage signed aims to protect Mainers from unlicensed online lenders who offer short-term loans with high interest rates and fees by banning the processing of electronic transfers used to access consumers’ bank accounts.
