PORTLAND — A member of President Barack Obama’s administration is traveling to Maine to support a Democratic plan to raise the federal minimum wage.
Laura Fortman is principal deputy administrator for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division. She’ll join Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud, Portland Mayor Mike Brennan and others on Monday in Bangor and Portland as part of an 11-state tour touting the minimum wage hike proposal.
The group wants to see the national minimum wage raised from $7.25 to $10.10 an hour.
Brennan is also eying the idea of having Portland have its own minimum wage. Maine’s minimum wage is $7.50.
