Fire consumed a pickup truck at 82 Best St. in Portland on Friday afternoon.
A builder who was remodeling a kitchen was working at the back of his truck when he noticed brown smoke coming a window of the 2007 Toyota Tundra crew cab, said Deputy Fire Chief Scott Thomes. When the man opened the side door, the interior burst into flames, which soon consumed the truck.
Firefighters were called and put it out quickly so it posed no danger to nearby structures, but the truck was a total loss, Thomes said.
The carpenter was able to save some of his tools, though others were destroyed in the fire, Thomes said.
Three Lincoln Middle School seveth-graders, Miles Thompson, Alex Rubin and Logan Morrione, captured the event on video.
