SACO — Rita Marilyn Murphy, 84, of Mayflower Drive in Sanford, passed away Dec. 20, 2013 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born in Holyoke, Mass. Sept. 2, 1929, the daughter of Wilmer and Irene Desjardins Morneau.

Rita graduated from Buckley High School in Connecticut in 1947.

She moved to the Saco area and first was employed by the Saco Lowell Shops.

For more than 33 years, she was a typist in the composing room for the Biddeford-Saco Journal.

She enjoyed cats, the Boston Red Sox and spending time with her family and friends. Her other enjoyments included travel; she was able to visit the Western United States, Barcelona, Spain and Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Richard F. Murphy, in 2005.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael Murphy and his wife Sally of Chesapeake, Va. and Timothy Murphy and his wife Karen of Saco; a sister, Marguerite Sadowski of Newington, Conn.; four grandchildren, Sean Murphy, Morgan Murphy and Jillian and Tenley Murphy; two great-grandchildren, Brennan and Tyler of Elgin, Ill.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. April 12, 2014 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 13 Cleveland St., Saco. Fr. David Robinson will officiate; burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Dennett, Craig & Pate, 365 Main St., Saco, are in charge of the arrangements.
