Tuesday’s heavy rains and flooding have claimed one victim in Caswell in northern Aroostook County.

According to the Maine Warden Service, Paul Oliver, 74, had moved his truck across a flooded portion of Oliver Road and was returning back to his house across the flooded section when he was swept downstream at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The water had completely covered the road and was flowing with considerable force, the warden service said. Oliver apparently stepped into the opening of a large culvert that was covered by water and was swept downstream.

His body was found by game wardens at 5:35 a.m. Wednesday, about 20 yards downstream of the road.
