I’ve found it absurd for years now that property tax bills are an unwieldy burden on so many Mainers, but no Maine politicians have been willing to even talk about the problem.
This is exactly why we need an independent governor again. Ever since Angus King left Augusta, Maine’s leaders have been unwilling to challenge the status quo or address Maine’s biggest problems head-on.
Given Eliot Cutler’s recent policy proposals regarding property taxes (“Cutler releases Maine tax reform plan,” April 15), I am sure that he is not afraid to identify the real problems facing our state and tackle them aggressively from Day One.
It’s time for a true visionary leader who is accountable to the residents of the state of Maine instead of national political party priorities.
