While no local teams took home titles, several individuals had memorable showings at the Class A and B outdoor track and field state championship meets.

Scarborough’s boys weren’t able to repeat as Class A state champions, but the Red Storm came in third with 61 points (Cheverus won with 99 and Lewiston was runner-up with 70). South Portland placed sixth with 36.

Scarborough got a first-place finish from its 3,200 relay team (Lucas Foerster, Jacob Loom, Alex Karam and Colin Jones), which had a time of 8 minutes, 10.62 seconds.

Jones finished runner-up in the 800 (2:02.12). Edward James tied for second in the pole vault (12-6). Michael Pino finished third in the shot put (49-9.75) and was fifth in the discus (136-7). Jerry Kenney was third in the 400 (51.65). Karam placed fourth in the 800 (2:02.81). Hugh McSorley placed fourth in the discus (137-7) and was sixth in the shot put (46-00.25). Griffin Madden finished fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.50). Maxim Doiron placed fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.83) and came in sixth in the 300 hurdles (42.30).

The Red Storm’s 1,600 relay team (Karam, Jones, WIll Fowler and Kenney) placed sixth (3:34.44).

South Portland got a win from Daniel Giuliani in the shot put (53-6). Guiliani also placed sixth in the discus (130-2). Michael Cuesta finished second in the triple jump (44-8.75) and fourth in the long jump (20-00.25). Ruay Bol was runner-up in the high jump (6-2) and came in sixth in the triple jump (41-8).

The Red Riots’ 3,200 relay (John Salamone, Jacob Maloney, Patrick Conley and Jon Bagley) was sixth (8:38.23).

In the girls’ meet, won by Thornton Academy with 65 points, South Portland (51) finished fourth and Scarborough (13) came in 19th.

The Red Riots were paced by Shannon Conley, who placed second in the mile (5:14.65) and runner-up in the two-mile (11:35.70), and Lauren Magnuson, who was second in the 100 (12.93) and third in the 200 (26.82). Michelle Medici finished fourth in the javelin (98-1). Callie O’Brien was sixth in the 100 hurdles (16.87). Maddie Martin came in seventh in the discus (95-3).

South Portland’s 3,200 relay team (Casey Loring, Janey Blackwell-Orr, Casey Kelley and Conley) was runner-up to Bonny Eagle (9:49.12) and the Red Riots’ 1,600 relay squad (O’Brien, Kelley, Conley and Magnuson) came in third (4:16.35).

For the Red Storm, Laura Volan came in third in the mile (5:20.56). Cailley Ledue was fourth in the pole vault (9-6). Ellen Shaw placed seventh in the high jump (5-2). Scarborough’s 3,200 relay team (Marisa Carbone, Jenna Douglas, Morgan McKeown and Emma Koukos) finished sixth (10:08.94).

Cape Elizabeth traveled to Brewer for the Class B championship meet.

The Capers boys tallied 24 points to finish ninth (Waterville was first with 92.5).

Kyle Kennedy finished third in the mile (4:31.50) and fifth in the two-mile (10:32.48). Eddie Galvin placed third in the triple jump (41-1.75) and was fourth in the long jump (20-1). Will Britton was fifth in the mile (4:35.36). Trevor Ewald was seventh in the 100 (11.72). Nathan Weare placed seventh in the discus (122-3).

In the girls’ competition, also won by Waterville with 108.25 points, Cape Elizabeth (7) placed 20th.

The Capers’ points came from Eva Brydson (fourth in the 800, 2:26.00) and their fifth-place 3,200 relay team (Brydson, Hayley Doss, Emily Faria and Hailey Petsinger, 10:25.52).

New Englands

The New England championship meet is coming up this Saturday at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts.

Cape Elizabeth’s Brydson (girls’ 800) and Kennedy (boys’ mile), Scarborough’s Doiron (boys’ 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles), James (boys’ pole vault), Jones (boys’ 800), Kennedy (boys’ 400), Madden (boys’ 110 hurdles), McSorley (boys’ discus), Shaw (girls’ high jump) and Volan (girls’ mile) and South Portland’s Conley (girls’ mile), Cuesta (boys’ long jump and triple jump), Guiliani (boys’ discus and shot put), Magnuson (girls’ 100 and 200), Medici (girls’ javelin), O’Brien (girls’ 100 hurdles), boys’ 3,200 relay squad and girls’ 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams all qualified.
