BIDDEFORD — The soundtrack to summer kicks off in Biddeford on Wednesday, June 25 when Music in the Park begins in Shevenell Park with Sylvain’s Acadian Aces. Music in the Park, which is presented by the Heart of Biddeford, runs on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-7 p.m. through Aug. 13. The series is free and includes a diverse range of music types over the 10 weeks; Sylvain’s Acadian Aces was included to complement La Kermesse activities that also begin that week.

This year’s series features touring artists and local bands. Bangor Savings is the major sponsor and Renee Fahey, manager at their Main Street branch, said “Bangor Savings Bank is proud to be a part of Music in the Park. Events like this highlight Maine’s creative economy, and are part of what makes our downtowns so special.”

Heart of Biddeford Executive Director Delilah Poupore said that this year’s big concerts in the little park will also feature a culinary twist. “The new owners of the Palace Diner have decided to open their take-out window and sell special Music in the Park hamburgers, hot dogs and french fries. Everything they make is delicious, so the park will smell as good as it sounds.” Poupore added, “Shevenell Park always has a nice little breeze, and community members from YouthBuild (part of the Adopt-a-Park program) do such a great job helping to keep the park looking beautiful.”

This year’s schedule is: June 25, Sylvain’s Acadian Aces, bourbon-flavored Cajun mayhem from old Acadie; July 2, The Band Apollo, local, pure rock infused with hints of soul and club-style pop; July 9, Clara Barry, intricate melodies, precise punctuation, and feather-like vocals; July 16, Pete Kilpatrick, solo show, melodic singer-songwriter, named Maine’s best act four times in the Portland Best Music Awards; July 23, Hillary Reynolds Band, Americana, traveling from Boston, the band has risen from coffeehouse darlings to sharing stages with Norah Jones and performing at festivals in front of thousands; July 30, Derek Wilkinson Band, raised in Saco, now part of the crew running Bottom of the River Sound in the North Dam Mill; Aug. 6, Don Campbell Trio, adult contemporary/country crossover and American rock ensemble; and Aug. 13, Connor Garvey Trio, acoustic Funky-Folk-Rock For The Good Hearted.
