HOOKSETT, N.H. — New Hampshire State Police say a man wanted on a probation violation in Maine is accused of leading officers on a chase in Hooksett with a woman and her two young children in the car.

Police said the car driven Monday by 29-year-old Eric Smith of Concord also was in a crash at the Hooksett Transfer Station.

When they caught up with Smith at a supermarket, police said they found he had taken a large quantity of narcotics and was taken to a hospital. He faces multiple charges; it wasn’t immediately known if he had a lawyer.

The pursuit started after a trooper tried to pull the vehicle over on a speeding violation on southbound Interstate 93.

Police said Smith was wanted by the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office in Maine.
