THE SEACOAST UNITED Mariners U19 Girls traveled to the University of Rhode Island in Kingstown, R.I., June 27-29 to play in the Region 1 U.S. Youth Soccer Championships. This is a record seventh year attending these championships for this team, the most of any girls soccer team from Maine, where they have been State Cup champions in 2007, 2008, and 2010 through 2014. The Mariners are coached by Paul Cameron and Billy Meader. On June 27, they earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over West Virginia. On June 28, they fell 7-0 to Virginia, ranked in the top four in the nation at this age group, and the eventual winner of the tournament. On June 29, they played to a 9-0 victory over New Jersey, a team depleted due to injury, but still offering a good game with lots of excitement.
