The victim of an attack in Skowhegan remained hospitalized in fair condition Friday, according to a spokeswoman for Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

Wayne Shaw was found at his house Thursday suffering injuries police said were sustained in an attack by a family member.

A woman who owns a garage near the Shaw property said Thursday that a woman from the state Department of Health and Human Services went to the house Thursday afternoon to check on Shaw’s mother, who lives in the home with Shaw, and when no one answered she called police.

Police said the mother was not home at the time of the attack.

Shortly after Shaw was found, Police Chief Ted Blais described the man’s injuries as life-threatening.

Shaw was described by neighbors as being in his 50s.

Following the incident, he was taken first to Redington-Fairview General Hospital and then flown to the Bangor hospital.
