Michael Sears wrote Sept. 5 that Michael Michaud should replace our current Republican governor because Gov. LePage has harmed Maine (“Letter to the editor: The records that LePage has broken only hurt Maine”).
Untrue!
Our governor is all about “bringing Maine back.”
• He paid the hospital bill of $750 million without raising income taxes.
• Having inherited a $1.3 billion deficit in 2011, he balanced the budget and cut income taxes to zero for 70,000 low-income Mainers.
• There are 22,000 new private-sector jobs. Unemployment is down from 8 percent to 5.5 percent.
• The rainy day fund hasn’t been this high in decades, which means better interest rates for bond issues.
Gov. LePage has proven that he’s intellectually brilliant and a man of action on Maine’s financial stability, education, veterans issues, domestic violence, protecting our environment and more.
Look at his record: Actions speak louder than words.
