Mona (Longfellow) Cunningham, 84, of Glastonbury, CT and formerly of Coventry, beloved wife of the late Eugene L. Cunningham, died peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at Manchester Manor with her family at her side. Mona was born Sept. 9, 1930, in Topsham, ME, daughter of the late L. Frederick Longfellow, Emily Longfellow Greig and her stepfather William Greig.

She attended local schools, graduating from Brunswick High School. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree in education from the University of Connecticut. Mrs. Cunningham retired from Highland Park Elementary School in Manchester after many years with the town of Manchester Board of Education as an elementary school teacher. She had lived in Coventry since 1969 before moving to Glastonbury.

Mona was a longtime member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Bolton and had been active with the church choir for many years. She was also a member of both the town of Manchester and the state of Connecticut Retired Teacher’s Associations.

She was a loving mother of four children, Leslie Cunningham and her partner Kassie Huhtanen, Pamela Archambault and her husband Patrick, Lynne Kumnick and her husband Keith, Brent L. Cunningham and three grandchildren, Amy L. Archambault, Sean Kumnick and Lauren J. Kumnick. Other survivors include her brother, Henry Greig and his wife Cova of Dover, NH, two sisters, Barbara Thompson and her husband James of Marshall, MO, Ellen Stinson and her husband Walter of Standish, ME, her uncle George Fox of Topsham, ME and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mona’s private health aides with Unity Home Care, Adwoa, Janet, Tina and Mayble as well as the nurses and staff of Buckingham Estates, Masonicare Hospice and Manchester Manor for the wonderful care Mona received during her time with them.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 41 Park St., Manchester, CT. Burial will be private in the Rogers Cemetery in Topsham. Calling hours will be held Friday from 4 to 7 at St. Mary’s Church.
