As you report (“Maine man sentenced to three years for robbing Augusta pharmacy twice,” Oct. 2), Ryan J. McLaughlin twice robbed an Osco Pharmacy, for which he has been sentenced to serve 37 months in federal prison.

He has been in custody since last November, and has been ordered to pay restitution.

On a related note, Kristina Lowe was convicted of killing two passengers in the car she was driving. She received a sentence of 18 months, and has been free on bail since the 2012 crash (“Oxford woman gets 18 months for crash that killed 2 passengers,” Oct. 1).

I have to wonder why McLaughlin received a sentence for two robberies that is more than twice that of Lowe, who killed two people.

Our justice system appears to view robbery as a severe infraction, while causing death is viewed as minor.
