NASHUA, N.H. — Hannah Leblanc scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Danielle Daigle in the 65th minute to lift the Monks to a Great Northeast Athletic Conference win over the Raiders at Nashua, New Hampshire.

Brooke Troup needed to make just one save to record her fourth shutout of the season for the Monks (8-6-1, 5-2-1), who outshot Rivier (6-8, 1-7) by a margin of 25-2 in the win.

BATES 4, CURRY 0: Aaron Nickelsberg opened the scoring nine minutes into the game and the Bobcats (4-7-1) went on to down the Colonels (8-5-1) at Lewiston.

Max Watson and Nate Merchant added goals midway through the first half for the Bobcats and Justin Pertierra closed out the scoring in the 82nd minute.

Bates keeper Sam Polito finished with six saves in 83 minutes. Jack Anderson did not have to make a save in the final seven minutes.

ST. JOSEPH’S 1, RIVIER 0: Austin Bell scored just 1:34 into the game on an assist from Jack Murray and the Monks (4-12, 2-4) held on to edge the Raiders (1-11, 1-5) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game at Nashua, New Hampshire.

Scott Benner finished with five saves while recording his third shutout of the season for the Monks, who outshot the Raiders 13-8.

FOOTBALL

INDIANA: Starting quarterback Nate Sudfeld will undergo season-ending surgery this week after injuring his left shoulder in a 45-29 loss to Iowa.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE: The team suspended seven players – including two starters – for this week’s game against Louisville after what the school says was a BB gun incident at an off-campus residence.

FORMER ALABAMA player Tommy Lewis, who gained fame for a play when he wasn’t supposed to be on the field, died Sunday in Huntsville. He was 83.

Lewis came off the sideline in the 1954 Cotton Bowl and tackled Rice All-America halfback Dicky Maegle near the 50-yard line.

Maegle had eluded Alabama’s Bart Starr and was on his way to a 95-yard touchdown run when Lewis brought him down.

Lewis ran back to the bench, and Maegle was credited with a touchdown.

The two players appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show two days later.

LED BY FLORIDA State kicker Roberto Aguayo, the Atlantic Coast Conference is the home to some of the best field-goal kickers around this season. Aguayo is 13 of 13 on field goal attempts this season to lead the country, but he’s far from alone – with four of the top five kickers all from the ACC.

Pittsburgh’s Chris Blewitt, Duke’s Ross Martin and Wake Forest’s Mike Weaver are all also perfect on field goals this season and rank third through fifth nationally.

FLORIDA STATE: Coach Jimbo Fisher adamantly defended Jameis Winston and lashed back at national media following a slew of reports focusing on Winston’s off-field issues.

Typically reserved when discussing a sexual assault investigation involving Winston, Fisher appeared agitated while fielding multiple questions about the FSU quarterback during his weekly news conference on Monday.
