Some supporters of independent gubernatorial candidate Eliot Cutler have recently suggested that we who support Democrat Mike Michaud for governor are being disingenuous.
If only we would vote our conscience, they claim, we, too, would choose Cutler. These supporters thereby demonstrate the same inclination to arrogance as their candidate: They patronize those who disagree with them.
In fact, we support Congressman Michaud because he is the best qualified to lead Maine by at least four measures: his merits as a skilled, accomplished legislator; his experience in the nuanced ways of state government; his abiding and proven concern for Maine’s future; and his humility and honesty.
Before they mark their ballots, I would urge Cutler’s supporters to recognize that a vote for Mike Michaud is the best way to facilitate the return of state government to a sane and healthy working relationship with all of Maine’s citizens.
