U.S. President and avid outdoorsman Teddy Roosevelt hunted game in many states and especially enjoyed Maine.

He was once brought by a Maine hunting guide to a trapped bear of legendary size, but angrily refused to shoot a captured animal.

This president who preserved millions of acres in this country to provide wilderness experiences for all would have been appalled by the cruel and unsporting practices allowed in this state (and this state only).

I am sorry about the scarcity of jobs in some parts of this state, but it is no more acceptable to promote jobs that degrade the hunting experience than it would be to promote jobs that pollute and degrade our beautiful Maine forests.
