CUMBERLAND — After nearly two years of planning, Greely High School in October launched an educational exchange program with Lycée Edouard Schuré, in Barr, France. The program brought 20 French students to Maine, where they stayed with families in Cumberland and North Yarmouth.

Over the course of two weeks, the students toured both towns as well as Portland, attended events at Greely, shopped in Freeport, and visited Bowdoin College, the State Capitol in Augusta and Boston’s Freedom Trail. The visitors even carved pumpkins on Halloween.

Kim MacDonald, a French teacher at Greely and co-organizer of the program, said Greely students will make a similar visit to Barr, a town of abut 7,000 in the Alsace region of northeastern France, during April 2015.
