The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit has arrested a Gorham man on charges of disseminating child pornography.

Micah Maurio, 28, was arrested Friday at his apartment at 132 Gray Road and taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland.

Police seized his personal computer and say an initial review turned up hundreds of images of child pornography. None of the children depicted are believed to be from Maine.

Maurio is a musician and a part-time faculty member at the University of Southern Maine, lecturing on music.

“Micah Maurio has been suspended without pay pending a decision on his continued employement with the University of Southern Maine,” USM Spokesman Chris Quint said Friday.

Maurio has been under investigation by the computer crimes unit since October following a tip. The Gorham Police Department assisted in the arrest.

Quint said USM officials would reach out to any students of Maurio’s if they had any concerns or questions.

“Our top priority is always the students,” he said.
