PORTLAND — A 33-year-old man died while he was in custody at the Cumberland County Jail early Sunday morning.
Miles Hartford, 33, was being held at the jail for charges in Androscoggin County including operating after suspension, violation of condition of release, operating under the influence and failure to submit to arrest, according to a press release Monday from Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce.
Hartford was found unconscious in his cell at 12:50 a.m. Sunday when an officer performed a security check. Corrections officers and medical staff performed CPR, but Hartford was pronounced dead at the jail, according to the release.
The Portland Police Department is investigating the incident.
