SACO — Rita McIntyre, of Saco and Winter Haven, Florida, died Jan. 7 peacefully at home in Saco surrounded by family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born Feb. 3, 1930 in Saco to Albert and Beatrice (Metayer) Gilbert, the fourth of seven children.

She was married to Frederick McIntyre for 56 years.

She was a homemaker and mother first to her children. Rita worked at Bates Mills in the 1950s; ran her own catering service; and worked at the Shaw’s Saco Bakery for 12 years.

She was a lifelong parishioner at Notre Dame de Lourdes Parish in Saco.

She is survived by: her children, Gilbert, Susan (Peterson), John, Fred, Maureen (Loignon), and Irene; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Maurice and Armand; and sisters Theresa Delage and Bernadette Cyr.

Memorial services will be held at Most Holy Trinity Church, on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 10 a.m.

Graveside services will be held later in the spring at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Little House of Prayer or the Maine Cancer Foundation.
