The Sanford Art Association will hold a reopening gala on Friday, Jan. 16 from 5-7 p.m. at 917 Main St. in Sanford. There will be refreshments. The gala will take place in the gallery, where there will be many different mediums on display and the artists will be in attendance. “Definitions:  Words Interpreted by Fiber Artists,” will be on display at The Saco Museum, Jan. 17 through Feb. 28. There will be an opening reception on Friday, Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition features the work of the Art Quilt Designers. “Definitions” is the culmination of a project that features widely varying interpretations for a single word. Engine has released its class schedule for the upcoming week. “Designing with TinkerCAD” will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 20 from 4-5 p.m. This class costs $10 and is for ages 7 and up. Adults are welcome. “Draw, Paint or Sculpt from the Figure” will also be held on Jan. 20 from 6-8 p.m. This class costs $10 and is for ages 14 and up. “After School Art Club” will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 21 and Friday, Jan. 23 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $5 for this class and it is for ages 7 and up. “Open Painting Group” will be held on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This class is for ages 14 and up and costs $10. The original works of artists Jane Ansaldo Church, Louise Tragard and Cindy Suave will be on display at Just Us Chickens Gallery, 16A Shapleigh Road in Kittery. The show will reflect each artist’s original interpretations of nature. The show will run through the month of January and will be a part of the shop’s Winter Celebration Day on Saturday, Jan. 17. The artwork of Shea Brook will be on display in a show titled “Urban Scenes” that is running at As 1 Gallery in Portland through the end of January. Brook is a Kennebunkport artist who focuses on cityscapes and various techniques and points of perspective. The gallery is located upstairs at 24 Exchange St. in the Old Port.

The photography of Brenda Mannino will be on display at the Wells Public Library through the month of January. Mannino is a self-taught photographer, and specializes in the digital alteration of photography. She is the author of “Photothoughtography.” The library is located at 1434 Post Road. The artwork of Dennis Poirier, an American impressionist painter, will be on display at The Wells Public Library for the month of February. There will be a free reception on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. Refreshments will be provided and the artist will answer questions. Poirier’s work is inspired by the colors, sights, and sounds of a busy port and fishing fleet. The Wells Public Library is located at 1434 Post Road in Wells. Engine is offering a February vacation day camp during the week of Feb. 16-20 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. Engine’s Makers Camp invites aspiring young artists, designers, engineers, and scientists, ages 7-13, to think, explore, and create. The camp will be instructed by Amanda Hawkins, a 2014 graduate of Montserrat College of Art and has a fee of $250 for the full week, or $65 for one day. MUSIC

A fiddle and piano concert will take place on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 3 p.m. at the West Kennebunk United Methodist Church, 160 Alfred Road in West Kennebunk. Frank Ferrel, one of Maine’s traditional fiddlers, is the featured performer in the first program of the New Year in the “Concerts in West K!” series. Ferrel has played concerts, dances, and festivals all over the U.S., and has made numerous appearances on public radio’s popular “Prairie Home Companion.” Appearing with Ferrel will be pianist Janine Randall. Women in Harmony will perform on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m., at Woodfords Congregational Church on 202 Woodford St. in Portland. The program will focus on Women and Health, and will interweave music about the concerns of the heart, including both romantic and parental love. The Sanford Professional Firefighters & Paramedics, Local 1624, will present a Valentine’s Day “Dueling Pianos” concert on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m., at the Nasson Community Center. The show will feature songs of today and yesterday along with crowd requests and sing alongs. Proceeds from this campaign will go toward the many causes the Sanford Professional Firefighters & Paramedics, Local 1624 supports throughout the year. “Kennebunk History in 50 Objects” opens Friday, Jan. 23 at The Brick Store Museum, 117 Main St. in Kennebunk. The exhibit will be on view through September 2015. Staff and volunteers at the museum worked for four months to select artifacts from the Museum’s 70,000-item collection to illustrate Kennebunk’s history in 50 objects. Included in the exhibit are a Penobscot birch bark canoe, bound-foot shoes from China, an early 20th century surgical kit, a Civil War firearm, a 19th century doll, firefighting tools, and more to explain the history of Kennebunk in three dimensions. Visitors can expect to find new items rotated monthly, to introduce a new story or topic from the past. The Museum will also be seeking supplemental objects from the community, especially for those decades or stories for which the Museum’s collection is lacking; for instance, items from the Great Depression; the 1960s and 1970s; and more. A comedy night will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. at Barreled Souls Brewery, 743 Portland Road in Saco. Maine based comedians, such as Aharon Willows, Will Green and Troy Pennell will perform. The performance will be held in the brewery’s tasting room and seating is limited. The Sanford Maine Stage is looking for actors and actresses for the upcoming season of murder mystery shows. The next show is a fundraiser for Massabesic’s “Odyssey of the Mind” group on Feb. 21.
