IN CELEBRATION OF APRIL being National Poetry Month, students at Lisbon’s Philip W. Sugg Middle School will be participating in the annual poetry contest supported by district librarian Katy Dodge and assistant Tim Gaudet. Junior Volunteers, from left, Amber Soucy, Celeste Brissette and Geoffrey Shambarger, prepare their entries for the contest, which will run from April 13-17. Library windows at the 4 Sugg Drive campus will display the title, author and first line of 30 different poems. Students are required to research and write the poem’s second line on their individual entry form for the contest. The poems include old and new classic pieces by Maya Angelou, Longfellow, Shell Silverstein and Ogden Nash, in addition to some famous lyrics from songs about the Civil War and the wild, wild west. Poetry contest winners will be drawn after spring vacation on Monday, April 27. The winners will celebrate with a pizza party on Wednesday, April 29.
