BANGOR — A lawyer for a man convicted of killing three people in a drug-related dispute in Maine says a new trial is warranted because of remarks made by the co-defendant’s attorney during closing arguments.
Randall Daluz of Brockton, Massachusetts, contends the attorney made a comment considered to be racist and made reference to the fact that Daluz chose not to testify. Daluz, who’s black, also contends there should have been separate trials.
Daluz and Nicholas Sexton, of Warwick, Rhode Island, were convicted last May in connection with the deaths of three Maine residents who were shot and burned inside a car in Bangor in August 2012. The victims were Daniel Borders of Hermon; Nicolle Lugdon of Eddington; and Lucas Tuscano of Bradford.
