SOUTH PORTLAND – A driver, whose foot may have slipped and hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, crashed her car into the glassed-in dining area of a Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shop on Main Street on Sunday afternoon.

Sgt. John Sutton said the driver was pulling into a parking space when her vehicle jumped over a concrete parking curb and crashed through the store’s front wall. The car traveled about 5 feet inside the coffee shop before coming to rest against a post, Sutton said.

There were no customers inside the shop, and three employees were in a back room when the collision occurred.

Sutton said the woman did not exhibit any signs of impairment and was not summonsed. Sutton said the officer who investigated the crash did not provide her name. The woman and a passenger, her daughter, were not injured, but their vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

The accident was reported around 3 p.m. The Dunkin’ Donuts is on Main Street in the city’s Thornton Heights neighborhood.
