PORTLAND — Treyjon “Trey” Dominique Lee Arsenault, 19, of Scarborough, died unexpectedly in the city on May 26.

Arsenault was born March 5, 1996, in Fort Hood, Texas, the son of Nancy and Donald Laxson, and of biological father Turhan Walker.

He graduated from Westbrook High School, where he captained the football team and was an All-Conference player. Arsenault loved looking up into the stands during a Friday night game and seeing his family; by tradition, he always walked off the football field with his arm around his mother.

An avid sports lover, he also was captain of the ice hockey team, and played baseball for many years. At age 11, he pitched a no-hitter in a playoff game.

After receiving athletic scholarships last fall from several colleges including Norwich University, Arsenault injured his shoulder and was told he needed surgery, perhaps ending his football career. Instead, he enrolled at St. Leo University in Florida, concentrating in criminal justice. Despite his youth, Arsenault was beginning to consider a career as a barber or in the military.

Arsenault was well-known and loved in the Westbrook community and beyond. He is remembered for being an articulate conversationalist, for his personal style, and for the courtesy he always showed others – a quality he said his mother instilled in him.

In addition to his parents, Arsenault is survived by his brother, Ashtin Laxson; his “Meme and Pepe,” Flo and Lee Hutchins; his grandparents, Debbi and John Arsenault; his uncle and “godfather,” Steve Arsenault; his uncle, John Arsenault; several other uncles, aunts and cousins; and virtually countless friends.

Visitation was held May 31 at Jones-Rich-Hutchins Funeral Home, in Portland. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated June 1 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, in Scarborough. No interment was scheduled.
