A 21-year-old Belgrade man has been charged with gross sexual assault and furnishing alcohol to a minor after he allegedly had sex with an 11-year-old girl, police said.
Police charged Travis Gerrier, 21, of Smithfield Road, and he is being held on $2,000 bail at Kennebec County Jail in Augusta.
Maine State Police troopers started investigating the case after they briefly helped the family search for the girl near their home last week. The girl was found with Gerrier in a nearby outbuilding, police said.
Troopers collected evidence, including communications between Gerrier and the girl over social media, police said.
