Freeport police have released new details of a bank robbery Friday that suggest a connection with two armed incidents in Portland earlier in the day.

According to police, a man entered a Key Bank branch on Main Street in Freeport on Friday around 3 p.m., showed a handgun and demanded money. He left with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said, and drove off in a silver SUV.

The SUV had been reported stolen in Portland earlier in the day, when a man approached a woman in a parking lot off Baxter Boulevard, pointed a handgun at her and ordered her out of her car, a silver Honda Pilot SUV. The man then drove off in the car and it was later found abandoned in Yarmouth.

A suspect fitting the description had previously tried to steal a cellphone from a man in the Hannaford parking lot off Baxter Boulevard.

Portland police described the suspect in the two armed incidents in the city as a black man, about 20 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall with an Afro-style haircut. The suspect in the Freeport bank robbery was described as a black man, 6 feet tall with a slender build.
