From the Journal Tribune: “City Manager Edward Clifford has attended his last city meeting. His desk is cleaned out and he has job interviews scheduled. Today is his last day on the job. He has been taken out to lunch every day this week, starting with Mayor Wallace Nutting on Monday, and ending with the city’s department heads today. Although he is seeking several positions he is not really hoping for a quick decision from certain boards of selectmen or county commissioners.”

50 years ago

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “City of Saco officials met last night with various department heads for a general budget over haul for each department. Mayor Paul E. Reny, the city council, Robert Fenderson, city clerk, Joseph Curran, city auditor, and City Treasurer Samuel Gagnon discussed ways that the departments will be able to stay within their budgets for the remainder of the year.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “When Mrs. George Woodsum of Lockes Mills went to call her husband at 5 o’clock Sunday morning, she found him dead in bed with a bullet hole in his body. No shot was heard Saturday night or Sunday morning either by Mrs. Woodsum or her mother, who is ill and with whom Mrs. Woodsum was spending the night.”
