Massabesic’s Nate Baert makes a tackle during Friday night’s game against Oxford Hills/Buckfield.

WATERBORO — The Massabesic Mustangs welcomed in Oxford Hills/ Buckfield on Friday night with the hopes of picking up their first football win of the season.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, Oxford Hills running back Jake Spinhirn and the visiting Vikings had something else in mind as they cruised to a 34-0 win in Waterboro.

“Oxford Hills did everything they needed to do to secure the win,” said Massabesic coach Brooks Bowen.

Spinhirn ran for 225 yards and three scores, including a 95-yard scoring run in the third quarter.

The Mustangs had their chances, according to Bowen, but were unable to capitalize.

“We shot ourselves in the foot at times with penalties and missing execution attempts,” said Bowen. “I still think we are improving, we just need to play mistake free football and execute when we do.”

Massabesic was led by Nate Baert with eight solo tackles.
