Re: “Videotaping of signature-gathering at Maine polls raises intimidation concerns” (Nov. 3):

After reading about this past voting day’s videotaping, it brought me back to my own feeling of intimidation at last year’s voting at St. Pius X Church.

As I was leaving through the narrow corridor exit where the tables of people with referendum question petitions were set up, I just wanted to pass and leave. A woman helping to direct people to stop at the tables grabbed my arm and pulled it while saying, in a very gruff voice, “You have to sign this.”

My comment to her, in a calm tone, was that I didn’t have to sign anything, and I released my arm and left.

This has been on my mind a lot, and the videotaping this year brings it all back so vividly and makes me want to ask for another exit where I or others won’t be harassed if we don’t want to sign petitions.
