TRAVIS PHILLIPS, 22, of Biddeford has worked at Market Basket for almost three years. He started as a bagger, or “sacker,” as it’s sometimes called. Since then he’s worked his way up, from pushing carts in the parking lot and working the register to his current role as assistant manager/supervisor. Phillips says his favorite part of the job is customer service and interaction. But he finds bagging a little tedious. “After a while it gets brain-numbing,” he said. And standing in one place “isn’t really my thing.” Phillips says baggers are often called on to perform maintenance tasks, which he finds suits him. Travis makes $9.25 per hour, and Market Basket employees are guaranteed a 25-cent raise every six months.
