FREEPORT

During the month of January, local artist Janet Lawrence will have an exhibit of her watercolor and graphite drawings in the main reading room at the Freeport Community Library.

As a child, Lawrence began drawing the cartoons she watched on TV and spent a lot of time sketching people and things around her. Originally from Ohio, Lawrence moved to Florida as a teenager, later graduating from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville with a degree in fine arts. Since moving to Maine 13 years ago with her husband and family, she has been inspired to paint even more.

Lawrence finds painting with watercolor more challenging and versatile than any other medium. She also loves painting with watercolor because she can use pen and ink, gouache or other media to achieve her visions. Her favorite subject is nature, and she is drawn to Maine’s beautiful landscapes.

The paintings on exhibit are available for purchase and subjects include Fort Popham and Pemquid Lighthouse. The Freeport Community Library invites the public to take a few moments to come appreciate this exhibit of watercolors.
