A downtown Freeport eatery that closed last year will be back in business under new ownership on March 1, with an added twist.

Jack Mercier and his son, Jeff Mercier, will operate The Lobster Cooker/Sports Pub, located at 39 Main St..The Merciers also own the Freeport Cafe, 31 U.S. Route 1. In addition to the outdoor dining area with plenty of parking in the municipal parking lot out back, the new Lobster Cooker will have a sports bar upstairs, to be called “The Upper Deck.”

The restaurant will feature seafood and pub fare, and the sports bar will have several high- definition televisions and a super high-def 4K for people to watch the games.

Jack Mercier said that he and his son signed a 10-year lease with property owner Mike Marino.

“We’re in it for the long haul,” Mercier said. “The sports bar will carry us through the winter months, before we open The Lobster Cooker.”

Mercier said he hopes to have the outside dining area open early this summer. Customers will order their food in a “clambake atmosphere,” and carry their trays of food to the tables, he said.

Mercier said he will offer a “soft opening,” via invitations, a few days prior to the March 1 general opening.
