YARMOUTH — The Yarmouth/Freeport/Gray- New Gloucester girls high school hockey team erupted for three third-period goals for a 4-1 regular-season finale victory over Winslow/Erskine Academy on Saturday at Travis Roy Arena.

The Clippers finished 8- 10 and likely locked up the No. 5 seed in the North, setting up a quarterfinal at Edward Little/ Leavitt/ Poland on Wednesday at Norway Savings Bank Arena in Auburn. Brunswick appears to the No. 6 seed and will visit Lewiston/Monmouth/Oak Hill, tentatively on Wednesday.

Down 1- 0 after Hillary Libby scored in the first period for the Black Raiders, Jenny Holmquist tied the game in the second period.

Holmquist wasn’t through, giving the Clippers a 2- 1 lead with a short-handed goal in the third. Kelsey Meyer gave the hosts a two-goal lead, and Keely Arnold completed the scoring and the win.

Miranda O’Shea had seven saves, while Winslow/Erskine Academy ( 3- 15) netminder Malinda Richards turned aside 40 shots.

Girls basketball

STRONG — Meghan Sorel led a big second quarter as Mt. Abram posted a 46- 40 Mountain Valley Conference win over Lisbon on Friday.

Sorel had 12 points to lead all scorers as the Roadrunners improved to 5-11.

Kaylin Le and Jasmin Le both had nine points for the 6-10 Greyhounds, who host Oak Hill on Tuesday at 7 p. m. Bree Sautter added eight points.
