Gov. Paul LePage said Tuesday that fellow Republican Donald Trump owes him for paving the way when it comes to being outspoken.
Speaking on the day of the New Hampshire presidential primary, the blunt-spoken LePage, who supports New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the presidential race against Trump and others, joked on WVOM-FM that Trump “should give me a stipend or give me a bonus for starting this whole thing about being outspoken.”
LePage then went on to do what he does best. He referred to a couple of recent remarks by saying “I had to go screaming at the top of my lungs about black dealers” and to talk about using the guillotine on drug traffickers to get the attention of lawmakers about the state’s heroin crisis.
The blunt talk, however, wasn’t limited to the Blaine House.
House Democratic leader Jeff McCabe used a profane acronym on Facebook to describe the governor’s State of the State letter on Monday. He went on to say the governor should have used the forum to deliver something powerful instead of “regurgitated campaign slogans.”
