BATH

A woman died early Wednesday morning after a vehicle struck her on Washington Street.

Bath police say at 6:05 a.m. they were called to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian on Washington Street, near King Street.

Sgt. Nathan Gould was the first officer to arrive and saw the pedestrian that was struck, a female, lying on Washington Street. She was unresponsive and Gould initiated CPR. Moments later Bath Fire and Rescue arrived on scene and took over first aid. Unfortunately, the 70-year-old woman died at the scene. Police say she is an employee at Bath Iron Works. Investigators are attempting to notify her family.

Police say Edward Buzzell, 57, of Bath was driving the 2008 Chevy Trailblazer that struck the woman. He remained at the scene after the incident.

“Initial indications are that Buzzell was traveling north on Washington Street. The female pedestrian was crossing Washington Street towards BIW by Union Street in a crosswalk when she was struck by Buzzell,” according to the press release issued by Bath Police Department.

The case is currently under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. Police say Buzzell, also a BIW employee, has been cooperative during the investigation.
