CAMDEN (AP) — Don McLean’s domestic violence case is set to return to a Maine courtroom, but his attorney says the “American Pie” singer will not appear.
McLean’s attorney entered not-guilty pleas to six charges, including domestic violence assault. Police arrested him on Jan. 18. The case returns to court in Rockland on Monday.
Attorney Walter McKee says McLean does not have to appear in person because he has already entered the pleas.
McLean’s wife filed a handwritten request for protection after the arrest. The couple later announced through McKee that the protection order was dismissed and the couple had “agreed to move forward.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
