PORTLAND — The Portland Pirates (31-25-3-2) came into Sunday’s game looking to right the ship, but the Hartford Wolf Pack (32-27-2- 0) proved to be too much as the Pirates fell by a score of 4-3 at Cross Insurance Arena in American Hockey League action.

Portland held a 3-2 lead after two periods, but defenseman Ryan Graves netted a pair of third period goals to complete the comeback for the Wolf Pack. Graves won the game when he accepted a Chad Nehring feed before releasing the shot into the top corner of the net over Portland goaltender Mike McKenna’s right shoulder.

The teams traded tallies in the second. Luke Adam grabbed the lead back for the Wolf Pack at 6:02 of the period when he carried the puck into the slot and released the slap shot past McKenna.

Chase Balisy fed the puck to Rob Flick, who worked through the ride side of the slot and stuffed home the backhanded shot to tie the game.

MacKenzie Weegar gave Portland the lead on the power play when he sent a one-timer in at 14:53 of the second period.

Matt MacKenzie scored his first goal in a Pirates jersey when he skated in and fired a shot past Magnus Hellberg at 11:56 of the first period.
