1 York: After winning the Class B indoor meet, the defending outdoor champion marches into the season with several returning scorers, including javelin state champ Jack Bouchard, and hurdlers Colt Santoro (110-meter champ) and Matt Arsenault.

2 Scarborough: Last year’s Class A runners-up, the Red Storm are led by multi-event athlete Sam Rusak and distance runner Colin Tardiff.

3 Falmouth: Finished fourth at the Class A state meet last year and returns sprinter Matt Polewaczyk, who was fifth in the 200, and Nigel Dunn, who was fourth in the 300 hurdles.

4 Thornton Academy: The Trojans return one top scorer, sprinter Edwin Kayumba, but after finishing in the top six the past three years can’t be discounted.

5 South Portland: Finished back of the pack in sixth, but return defending shot put champion Dan Guiliani, distance runner Jacob Maloney and racewalker Steven Smith.
