PERU – A Maine fire chief driving home from a wedding got a text message of a fire in progress and was stunned to recognize the address as his own.
The Lewiston Sun Journal reports that Peru Fire Chief William Hussey was about 10 minutes from home when he got the jarring text Saturday night.
Hussey said he was relieved when he arrived to find the fire was actually at an outbuilding at a camp next to his house. That camp doesn’t have a marked address, so neighbors had given Hussey’s address instead. They also had put the fire out with a garden hose by the time firefighters arrived.
Hussey said investigators believe a small grass fire had reignited and spread to the outbuilding, located about 50 feet from Hussey’s house.
