Perennials on sale

The Steep Falls Village Improvement Society will be hosting a perennial sale on Saturday, June 18, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at Steep Fall Park at the gazebo. The sale will feature many varieties of plants and shrubs from area gardens, a mystery plant table and raffle table. Proceeds will benefit the Steep Falls Village Improvement Society.

Meals and more

In 2014, Steep Falls Country Church, 35 Main St., opened 5 Loaves Community Kitchen, offering a nutritious meal to all who attend every Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m., as well as a box of food for anyone who wishes to receive one.

The church also has a coffee house the third Saturday of the month offering coffee and home-baked goods, with musical groups entertaining. Donations are sought in this event to help cover the cost of the musicians’ travel expenses.

Bicycle safety

A local bike safety event took place recently in Standish, at the NeuroRestorative clinic on Northeast Road. The event involved handing out bike helmets through the Michael Goulet Foundation, a bike rodeo, giving brain injury prevention information to parents and checking children’s bike helmets for proper fit. It was part of a nationwide Volunteer Day held by the Mentor Network, a national health and human services provider that offers community-based services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and brain and spinal cord injuries, as well as to youth and elders in need of support.

The theme this year for the Standish Summer Spectacular is, “There’s no place like home.” Events begin Thursday, June 23, from 6:30-8:30 p.m, with the Taste of Maine, at the Sebago Lake Boat Launch.
