The Freeport Town Council confirmed the appointment of Charles Jordan of Camden as the town’s new fire chief Tuesday evening.

Town Manager Peter Joseph chose Jordan to replace retired Chief Darrel Fournier out of a field of over 30 candidates.

The 30 candidates were whittled down to six, with two making it for a final interview.

Jordan, who served 25 years with the Rockland Fire Department — 10 of those as department chief, was appointed for an indefinite term.

With a degree in economics, Joseph said Jordan will have, along with his experience as a chief, the right skills for budgeting, finance and administrative skills.

Jordan will begin his new role as Freeport Chief on Aug. 1.
