A 67-year-old man was injured Saturday when the ultralight plane he was piloting crashed near his home in Trenton.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred shortly after 9 a.m. They said the pilot, Floyd Ober, was making a pass over a grass airstrip near his home on Oak Point Road when he was unable to clear a barn near the end of the airstrip.
The sheriff’s office said Ober had significant injuries to his legs and arms and was taken by helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. A hospital spokeswoman said his condition was “fairly stable” as of Sunday evening.
A horse in the barn was injured in the crash and was treated at the scene. The horse’s injuries were described as minor.
The sheriff’s office said the preliminary findings of its investigation of the crash will be turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration for further investigation.
